Doors that Combine High Function with High Fashion

Being at a relatively high elevation for a home in central Florida, The New American Home 2018 is making the most of its breathtaking view of Lake Apopka with the help of the latest products from Panda Windows & Doors.

From the main living area, the home boasts a 30-foot-wide view out onto the pool deck, with the picturesque lake in background. That view has minimal obstruction, thanks in part to Panda’s large, Lift & Slide glass doors, which are mounted on a very thin, 3/16-inch track.

John Kolb, VP of construction at Legacy Custom Built Homes, says the innovate doors provide “a seamless transition between the indoors and the outdoors.” But the appeal of these products isn’t just about fashion — it’s about function, too.

While the home owner will love the ease of use — each panel weighs more than 200 pounds, but can be opened with only a few pounds of pressure — home builder will appreciate the ease of installation for such large, high-end doors.

“What I like about [the Lift & Slide] doors is that the bottom tracks allow them to be installed with a very high degree of precision,” said Robert Derocher Jr., president of Circle D Enterprises which oversaw the installation of the windows and doors.

“And what’s unique about the bi-fold doors is that all of the bearing points are on the top [which means] there’s no weight on the bottom,” he said. “Working on this home has given us a unique opportunity to get an early look at some exciting new products that I’m sure we’ll see a lot more of in the future.”

Those who attend the 2018 International Builders’ Show in Orlando, Jan. 9-11, will be able to tour the home and see for themselves many of the latest building products and techniques. For more information, visit buildersshow.com.
